RONCOURT Art Deco Man Bending Steel

This patinated spelter sculpture on black marble base depicts a man bending steel, and was designed by Jean de Roncourt. Purchased in France roughly ten years ago. Measures 21" by 6.5" by 28" (53.25 cm by 16.50 cm by 71.00 cm). Unsigned. Sculptor, foundry and age are unknown. We believe the piece dates from the Art Deco period, circa 1930-1935. Estimated weight is 20-25 lbs. According to the Artnet.com database, there is only one known instance of this work coming to major auction. On 4/22/90 at Sotheby's in Monaco, this piece in patinated bronze, entitled " La Force ", was offered in lot 728 with an auction estimate of 15,000-25,000 FF ($2,665-$4,442) but did not sell.
