Iron Signal Mortar, 17th C
Widely used during the 17th and 18th Centuries as signal cannons, primarily at sea, this hexagonal example stands 6 3/4" high, 3 ½" across at the base, and weighs about 7 ½ pounds, with a 1" bore. Large touch hole at the base. Shows crude casting and corrosion, as normally found.
