Romeo Ongaro Venetian Floral Engraved Mirror

Unavailable
This fabulous mirror by Romeo Ongaro features a giltwood frame in the French Rococo style, and an incredible etched glass floral still life scene that includes an elaborate floral bouquet in vase surrounded by nuts, pomegranates and other fruits. Entire mirror frame measures 44.5" high and the frame immediately surrounding the mirror measures 33" by 29.25". This mirror was created by Romeo Ongaro of Murano Venice in the early-to-mid 20th century. Signed "R Ongaro" in the lower right corner. There are large cracks in the mirrored glass that surrounds the center mirror on the left side, but this damage can no doubt be repaired. Gilded frame features a tall rocaille design at the top and smaller organic design at the bottom, characteristic of the 18th century Louis XV and French Rococo styles. Ongaro was a member of Studio Ars et Labor Industrie Riunite (SALIR), the noted Murano artist cooperative started in 1923.

Additional images forwarded upon request.

The rear center support for the upper decorative section is missing. There are two cracks to the upper decorative woodwork, but no missing pieces. At the bottom, there is a clean break to the decorative woodwork, and a missing scroll-shaped section on the left. One missing piece is on hand and could be used during restoration. All breaks and cracks could surely be restored. Thanks for visiting, and please let us know if you have any questions or comments.
