This beautiful Vintage Heart Shaped Signed Brooch with elegant gold filled leaf border comes with 7 birthstones( 2 emerald green,amethyst,blue sapphire, golden topaz, ruby, diamond all faux gemstones) and an inside heart filled with all faux diamond accents, a very elegant piece crafted by Trifari and would make a great gift for mom from child or husband. Thanks to a very helpful etsier, we now know that this brooch was designed to recall the Victorian Days when there were secret meanings contained in jewelry. It spells out "Dearest" using the first letter of each of the stones. ( see photo) . D - diamond E- emerald A -amethyst R - ruby E- emerald S - sapphire T- topaz They had several other pins with secret messages during the same design campaign. Now you can have a secret that only you and your sweetheart will know... This piece is listed in "Signed Beauties of Costume Jewelry" by Marcia Brown on page 191 with a value of $150. This was a great advertising and selling point for men during WWI and later to buy this pin, and similar ones, for their mothers and sweethearts back home.
