An antique and ornate silverplate loving cup made by the Middletown Plate Co. of Middletown, Conn. ca 1864-1899. It is elaborately engraved with barley twist handles, is urn shaped. The engraving i the upper portion is flowers and leaves in a flowing design. the lower bulbous portion of the urn features cartouche heads of mythological gods or Rome or Greece along with stylized floral fleurd lys designs. In very good condition with no dents or scratches. It could be polished to a higher shine, but there is no indication of pitting or wear through the silver. I believe this type of antique silverwork is undervalued today.
