Richard Rethemeyer is a San Francisco based commercial and fine art photographer. These images are contemporary, but made in the style of classic 19th century French photographs. He writes: Over the period of several cold mornings I set out with my camera to photographs Paris as it awakened. I would wander the streets happening upon a place more by chance than intent. Once in the darkroom, I began making several lower contrast, but denser prints and reduced them in a bleach before toning in an early formula of sepia. The strength of the reduction and the varying toner would alter the color of each print. The process became very individual, making each print slightly different from the rest."
