German Soldier Bronze Figurine Sculpture by Richard W. Lange

This finely sculpted, cast and patinated bronze figurine of a mourning soldier, mounted on a stone plinth, comes from Richard W. Lange (German, 19th-20th century).  Signed in the stone. Measures 8 by 5 by 4 in.  Lange (1879-c1944) studied in Nuremberg, Berlin and Rome, and is known for his bronze and ivory figurative sculpture.  He worked in the Classical and Art Deco styles that often embodied German themes. Many of his works were cast in Berlin by Rosenthal and Maeder, later known as Preiss and Kassler.  His works is documents in Berman's Bronzes: Sculptors & Founders, 1800-1930, and other reference books covering the period.
