Rare variation of the British cavalry sword, pattern 1908. Leather covered steel guard and steel scabbard with 35 inches long well marked rapier-type blade and pistol-shaped grip. Overall length of the sword in the scabbard is 44 ½ inches The sword has one unusual mark on the ricasso near the guard; number 1 11 ( year? ) I had never seen a 1908 pattern sword with leather covered guard and scabbard. The sword was made for the British Army in Africa and the leather cover was added to isolate metal parts from the hit of the sun.
