Rare Mount Washington Verona Glass Vase

Unavailable
This extremely rare Verona glass vase from Mount Washington dates from the 1890s and is in very good condition, with no visible cracks, chips or repairs. It measures 13" tall, 4.5" across and weighs 2 lbs. 2 oz. Underside is signed in gold " Verona " with the number " 917 ". It features a scalloped rim and the image of a winged cherub holding a basket. There is some wear to the gilded and enamelled decoration. This item resides in our client's gallery in Westchester County NY and may be seen by appointment. The April 2005 edition of the Journal of Antiques and Collectibles contained a wonderful article on Mount Washington Glass by William Marcoux Jr. In this article he wrote "During the 1890s, Mount Washington produced two other wares, Napoli and Verona...Verona is a clear glass decorated on the outside in a very distinctive silhouette-type manner...and very little is found today." We are not aware of any Verona glass objects currently for sale in any of the major online markets, and the only auction sale we are aware of occurred on October 28, 2005 at the Early Auction Company of Milford OH, where a 10" tall Verona vase depicting a dragon sold for $2,530 including buyer's premium.
