Rare, Large 12.5" Clewell Copper-Clad Pottery Vase

$2,650.00
Quantity available: 1
Copper-clad and patinated vase by Charles Walter Clewell, Canton, Ohio, likely on a Weller blank. The copper cladding has been beautifully patinated truly making it look ancient. The Egyptian Galleries at the Louvre contain a small display of "Proto-Dynastic" pottery (dating from sometime before Egyptian dynastic history -- before 3200 B.C.E.) of which I think Clewell must have known and been inspired by; there is a true timelessness to Clewell's pots. This one is no exception. It is incised in the copper: "Clewell 313-2-1" on the bottom. It is in very good/excellent condition with only light wear and a pressure line in the copper under the patina about 6" up from the bottom of the pot. Please write with any questions you may have.
