A rare ceramic tile by the J & J G Low Art Tile Company of Chelsea Mass. USA. Entitled "Ode to Apollo" it was designed by Arthur Osbourne. The poem of the same name was written by John Keats in 1815.
Plastic sketches are not made of plastic, but rather a wet clay that was pressed into a mold. These were mad to be hung in a frame as a piece of art and not installed into a wall. If you look closely at the owl above the three figures, you will see a face hidden in the feathers of the right wing. The initials of Osbourne are in the lower right corner. The tile measures 18.75" x 11" x 1". The back is marked multiple times.
This has recently been professionally framed. The surface has some small nicks in the glaze that can be easily disguised. The back has a small corner chip
