Rare Italian Flintlock Sporting Gun, ca. 1680

Tapered octagonal to round 43" barrel of 25 bore (slight damage to muzzle) with dovetailed foliate silver rear sight (foresight missing). Rounded lock with engraved decoration (worn), chiseled and engraved hammer and frizzen. Walnut full stock with curved butt of Catalan form (fore-end with splits and some damage), inlaid with pinned brass panels, pierced and engraved with foliage and birds. Cast and chased brass trigger guard and side plate with foliate decoration and monster heads. Pierced engraved trigger, brass sling loops and pierced and engraved barrel bands (one a later replacement). Original iron ramrod with turned baluster tip. Iron parts with light pitting, somewhat heavier on the barrel. An extremely rare and desirable gun in good partially restored condition. If one could find such a gun in fine condition it would bring upwards of $20,000. Overall length 58". Contact seller for additional photos and information.
