Rare Chinese Three Drawer Coffer Table

Unavailable
Antique Chinese Cabinet Table (Rare Chinese Three Drawer Coffer Table). This circa 1750's (or earlier) coffer is extremely rare with its original center locking mechanism. A metal plate would have been placed over the borders of the drawers, with a lock fastened on the protruding ring-still present.

It also has traces of its original red, black and burgundy lacquer, which show through under the more recent black lacquering; which has been removed. Today, the patina resembles a raw look.

The form of this piece is more like a cabinet or a chest of drawers. It features original iron hardware, with old coin back plates and boss iron head nails which accent and enhance the style of the cabinet. The drawer fronts are made of two boards-one nicely carved with floral patterns and one forming the back to the carved piece. When the larger bottom drawer is removed it provides access to the hidden secret area of the cabinet. The side spandrels run the entire length of the cabinet. The apron at the bottom of the cabinet is nicely carved. Antique Asian Furniture & Furnishings: Rare Chinese Three Drawer Coffer Table from Shanxi Province, China.
