RARE Book "Oak and Ivy" by Dunbar First Edition 1893 Red-Brn Cloth w/Extras!!
Super rare first edition copy of "Oak and Ivy", the first book of poetry published in 1893 by Paul Dunbar, African-American/Negro/Black American poet. Hardbound red-brown cloth with gold lettering on cover, 62 pages. Was dismayed to see the discoloration inside, until I realized the damage was due to newspaper clippings from 1906 regarding the poet's death. From my research, it appears there were only 500 first editions, 250 of which were destroyed by fire. This one shows age, with loose stitching, some loosening of cover fabric, fraying on top and bottom of spine, foxing and tanning of pages, and wear to corners. Still very much intact, and will include the clippings where they have rested for over 100 years. Measures 5.25" x 7.75". Sold as is. Shipped with care via Priority Mail with insurance.
