RARE Antique Georgian Shell Vinaigrette perfume
This RARE old circa 1830 hanging vinaigrette ( or perfume)is most likely to be english in origin. These were filled with cotton or cloth , then a scent or perfume was dropped inside and worn by the waist. These also held smelling salts and were believed to keep sickness and ill smells away . There is a hole on one side of this vinaigrette for letting the scent out . The Mother of Pearl shell is beautiful and lustrous and one side has a little wear on it. The handle is ornate with repousse work as well as the footed bottom. This measures 3" tall and is not a mass manufactured item so it is quite a collectible piece!
