Rare 17th C. French Scenic Silk Tapestry with Needlepoint Border Chair Back Panel Good Antique Condition Commensurate with Age Cut outs for chair arms; minor moth damage to scene Late 1600s This magnificent 17th C. French silk tapestry chair panel with needlepoint border once graced a French chair back. The central scene depicts a garden setting with a body of cypress lined water and chateaux in the background. A maiden sits beneath a large tree between a cherub holding a basket of flowers and an angel with peacock wings. This tapestry scene is bordered by needlepoint patterns of c-scroll acanthus leaves and florets. Suitable for a host or hostess chair back, this magnificent 17th C. tapestry and needlepoint chair panel will be a collectors piece. See Code #909-81b for a second panel of the same quality and age.
