This Rachel Beebe Original Signed Landscape Watercolor on Paper, circa 1960, could have easily been painted in the village of Greenport located on the northern fork of Long Island, New York, where Rachel Beebe lived most of her life.

Born in 1897, Beebe died just short of her 100th birthday in 1996. She started painting in the 1940's, attending classes with Greenport, Long Island's Impressionistic landscape and marine painter, Whitney Hubbard (1875-1965). Beebe also studied watercolor painting in Maine with Edgar Albert Whitney (1891-1987), and as a result of this training, she became an accomplished watercolorist. Beebe painted along the docks near her home in Greenport, Long Island with fellow artist, Caroline M. Bell, Madeline Bassarear, Clara Moore Howard and other Peconic Bay Impressionists, who accompanied her on painting excursions to Gloucester, Massachusetts. In 1997, Beebe was the subject of a major retrospective at the Island Artists Gallery in Greenport.
