Putto with Dolphin Bronze After Verrocchio

Unavailable
This antique bronze fountain, after the original by Andrea del Verrocchio (1433-c1488) known as Putto with Dolphin, was cast at the Sommer foundry in Naples and is believed to date from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century. Foundry mark "Fond G Sommer Napoli" resides along the edge at the base of the bronze, which rests upon a polished stone base which is believed to be granite or possibly marble. The work was cast to be a working fountain or fountainhead, but was mounted on a marble stone base at some point. It measures 31" high and 18" wide. In typical indoor lighting, the patina appears a dark brown, but hints of color appear as the piece is illuminated. Our first image was taken using typical flash and exposure, and accurately reflects the patina seen in regular lighting. Some of our other shots were over-exposed in order to bring out these additional colors in the patina. This item resides with our client in northern New Jersey and may be seen in person by appointment.
