This is an uncommon one-sixth plate post mortem daguerreotype. I believe this man was likely an outlaw given the way his portrait was done.My guess he was propped up on a wooden slab for the photographer. The bottom line is that I would hate to look this way alive. I would at least want the excuse of death by hanging or other to avoid finger pointing. If you look at his clothing one can see they are painted on. As if his body from the neck down was pretty much hamburger helper. Interesting image in every respect.
