This creamy white stoneware pie vent, pie bird or pie funnel was made by the Nutbrown company of England and has the British Registry date of 1949. The Nutbrown company has been making pie vents in England for 50 years or more. The pie vent was almost certainly made in Staffordshire England and I got it in the Potteries district recently. A fun piece. And practical! Pie birds were developed in the 1500s to release steam from a baking pie so the filling didn't boil over.
