Included here is a set of eight original dining or side chairs, designed and made exclusively for the Royalton Hotel in New York City in 1988. This iconic design was never commercially produced, and is widely regarded as one of the most influential examples of post-modern seating from the 1980s. Starck was commissioned by Ian Schrager, former co-owner of Studio 54, to redesign the interior of the Royalton in 1988. The scale of the commission and Starck's original designs were impressive (including everything from door pulls to tables), and the project ushered in the age of the boutique hotel. Condition of each chair is exceptional. Most have minor dings and light scratches, and some have been professionally restored to repair minor losses. Additional images forwarded upon request. ( za- )
