Persian jambiya are similar to those of other Islamic nations, except the quality of material and workmanship is generally better. This example features an 8 3/4" curved blade with pronounced central rib. The steel hilt is decorated with a delicate gold damascened design (worn) and a mottled pattern which appears to have been made by a heat process. This gives an appearance similar to pudding stone, a material highly prized for Eastern dagger and sword hilts. Wood scabbard covered with embossed leather. Brass chape with embossed floral pattern. For a very similar example, see Fig. 146, “Islamic Weapons, Maghrib to Moghul”, by Anthony Tirri.
