The wistfulness of a young girl's form and fancies are beautifully portrayed in this pink, blue and white porcelain rendition. The piece is signed "Paul Sebastian ~ 1989," but Paul J. Sebastian was not an artist but the founder of the Sebastian Exchange, organized about 1982 to evaluate and stabilize the secondary market for Sebastian Miniatures. The two primary artists behind Sebastian Miniatures, known as "America's first collectables," were Prescott Woodbury Baston (1909-1984) and Prescott Woodbury "Woody" Baston, Jr. (b. 1945), but it was decided their name was too hard to pronounce for marketing purposes. Very popular around the Boston area since the late thirties, Sebastian Miniatures "went National" in 1978. The Sebastian Miniatures Collectors Society formed in January, 1980, by which time the figurines were vastly popular throughout the Nation, and the official Sebastian Museum was was also dedicated that year in Walpole, Massachusetts. This piece was one of 19 new designs released in 1989, the year the Museum was rededicated.Approx 8 1/2" T. Brass pole starting to tarnish, But excellent condition.
