This truly magnificent marble sculpture in the neoclassical style by Pasquale Romanelli (Italian, 1812-1887) depicts a fluid dancing female, and measures 60 by 15 by 19 in (152 by 38.1 by 47.5 cm).

The founder of the famous Tuscan family of Romanelli sculptors, he was father to Raffaello Romanelli and grandfather to Romano.  Like a few of his similarly successful and acclaimed contemporaries, including Cesare Lapini and Pietro Barzanti, Romanelli launched his own gallery, Galleria Romanelli, to satisfy the high demand throughout Europe for reproductions of classical sculpture.
