PARIS Souvenir SPOON Germany Silver ENAMEL -
On the handle of this beautiful silver spoon is a rooster, symbol of France. The word Paris is in enamel and red and white enamel bands run down the handle. In the bowl is a representation of the Palais Trocadero. It was built for the Exposition of 1878 and demolished in 1937 to make way for the Palais de Chaillot.
On the back of the rooster is stamped .900 (or .800) Import d'Allemagne with French guarantee mark. We find the fact of a French souvenir spoon imported from Germany intriguing to say the least. Especially given the animosity between these nations during the period this spoon was manufactured.
5 inches long.
Very good used condition. No dings or dents. Some missing red enamel.
Circa late 19th to early 20th C
