Pair Sevres French Empire Napoleonic Ormolu Bronze Mounted Vases
This magnificent pair of Napoleonic porcelain vases in the Egyptian style feature extensive raised gilded decoration on green ground, and gilt bronze mounts, and date from the late 19th to early 20th century. The fronts carry the initials of emperor Napoleon and empress Josephine, and on the reverse each features an armorial wreath above lotus blossoms.and the spurious mark "M. Imp de Sevres". Condition of each is very good. According to Christie's, the ormolu mounts are based on a set of three Chinese celadon porcelain vases in the collection of the Louvre supplied by the Darnault brothers to Mesdames Adélaïde and Victoire in 1782, and updated with the Egyptian terms in 1786.
