Pair Opaline Glass w Painted German Motif

Unavailable

Included here is a pair of French opaline glass stem vases bearing matching hand-painted figural landscape scenes based on a German motif. This is a matched (not matching) pair which appear to have been decorated by different artists. One carries undecipherable initials and the words "apres l' allemand" ("after the German") while the other carries the initials "JB" followed by "L' ALLEMAND". Each measures 8" high and 5.75" across. Condition is very good. There is little wear to the painted scenes, noticeable wear to the gilding and a small chip from the lip of one vase. Each could use a gentle cleaning, as there are dark smudges on the rear (side opposite the painted sides). These items come from an impressive collection of antique Bohemian and French glass numbering over 150 items. They reside with our client on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York city, and may be seen by appointment.
