Pair of Antique American Portrait Tiles

$495.00
Quantity available: 1

Terrific pair of self-framed portrait tiles from American Encaustic Tiling Company, described by Karlson as "Man and Woman in 17th Century Costume". Tiles are carved in deep relief and are finished in a bright majolica glaze that pools beautifully in the deeper recesses of the tiles. They are in very good condition as follows: portrait of the woman has minor bottom corner chips at left and right and wear to the curve of the lady's ear; the portrait of the man has edge nicks at left near bottom and bottom edge below his ear; tiny glaze nick to the collar just behind his ear. The glaze is glossy and scratch free. Previously in the collection of the White Pillars Museum in Ohio. Please write with any questions you may have.
