A Fine PAIR of French Bouillotte Lamps, wired. Circa 1820. Beautiful Bronze Dore finish, with gilt lined Tole Shades. The Lamps are 13" in diameter and 23.75" to top of finial. In Excellent condition. Price indicated is Firm!
Bouillotte is an 18 century French gambling card game of the Revolution based on Brelan, very popular during the 19 century in France and again in America for some years from 1830. The game is regarded as one of the games that influenced the open-card stud variation in poker, and also the one which gave rise to the "Bouillotte lamp", equipped with a shade that could be lowered as the candles burned down.
