Pair Antique French Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze Electrified Candelabra After Jean-Louis Prieur

This pair of antique four-light candelbras in the Louis XVI style, circa 1900, and after Jean-Louis Prieur (active 1765-1785), come from the Paris studio of Gagneau Freres.  30 in, 76 cm.  Marked Gagneau MADE IN FRANCE.  The original design by Prieur, circa 1770 is part of the Wallace Collection. The firm of Gagneau Freres dates to 1800 and exhibited at major national and international fairs throughout the nineteenth century.  Prieur was a key participant in the French Neoclassicism movement of the Louis XV and Louis XVI periods. In addition to commissions from the court of Louis XV and for Louis XVI's coronation, he received many commissions from royalty throughout Europe, for furniture, clocks, vases, wall appliques and chandeliers. ( ormolu dore gold marble )
