Pair of 19th Century Walnut Armchairs from France ca.1880.
Intricately hand carved, this pair of antique French fauteuils or armchairs are in the Renaissance style . The beautifully patinated arms end in an Apostles head. The top crest features an angel's face carved in high relief with stylized wings and scrolls.
The legs and stretchers are hand turned and sturdy. The woven tapestry on the chairs is in excellent condition, probably was redone in the '60's, and finished with decorative brass nail heads . Each chair has a different scene of a man and women in a garden singing and playing string instruments.
Found in the "Marche aux Puces" (Paris Flea Market.) They measure: 55" H x 28" W x 27 D. The pair can be used as occasional chairs or as Host chairs at the dining table.
