A mid 1950's Expressionist painting on board signed by Umberto Romano , a listed artist who was born in Italy , came to America as a boy , painted in NYC / Provincetown / Here is some Bio:
Born outside of Naples, Italy, Romano immigrated to the United States with his parents as a young boy. He trained at the National Academy of Design and his early work reflected his classical training.
In 1933, he opened the Romano School of Art in Gloucester, after having spent childhood summers here.
Early in his career, Romano was known for his work as a portrait artist. In 1942, he was commissioned to paint President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's mother, Sarah Delano Roosevelt. But he is also regarded for his work as a muralist, illustrator and sculptor.
