Date: 1940c Size: 20 x 29 inches Notes: Poster Artist: Knopf About The Poster: A rare poster which highlights the patriotic actions of those who enlisted with the Free French movement in France. The Free French Forces (in French: Forces Françaises Libres, FFL) were partisans in WWII who decided to continue fighting against the forces of the Axis after the surrender of France and subsequent German occupation. Historically, an individual became Free French after he enlisted in de Gaulle's Free French organisation located in London. (wikipedia) With a clear call to arms - liberte, egality, fraternite - a soldier shows the way to a partisan who appears ready to fight armed only with a wrench. This poster is in very good condition (with obvious folds which will disappear when this poster is framed), unlined and comes to us from an important private collection.
