Rare and Unusual Original 1936 Autographed Photograph of Clarence Muse (1889-1979) wrestling a tiger. Muse was a pioneer film actor, writer, director, singer, composer, and lawyer. He was the first African-American to "star" in a film. In his early years, Muse worked as an opera singer, a minstrel performer and a vaudeville actor. He also composed songs and wrote plays and sketches, and was a pioneer in the black theatre movement. An outspoken proponent for the positive treatment of black performers, Muse fought demeaning stereotypes most his career. Muse appeared in over 150 films from 1929-1979. 7.5"X9.5".
