Orientalia/Sm. RND Lidded Plastic Box

What a wonderful mystery box! This little round box is full of mystery for me. It is wonderfuly made. There is a lot of hand work involved in the construction. I have yet to figure out the material it is made of. Tortoise shell? and horn? Man made plastic? Whatever it is, it is lovely. There is an inside seam where the inner ring was joined. You can see crinkling in the material, occuring when it was heated and molded inside the outer box. You can not see through the box as it is two layers thick. The rim of the lid is a double layer as well. The top is thin and transparent. The carved medallion is hand carved and applied with pegs or rivets. The stylized dragon carving is indicative to Chinese or Japanese representations of dragons. The bottom of the box has some wear where is has sat on a hard surface. There are some minor surface scratches, otherwise it is in very good condition. It measures aprox. 2 3/4"X1 5/8" H.
