Old Racing Trophy - Massive 1913 Car or Motorcycle Racing Trophy - 3 Cylinder Championship - 28"h Pairpoint

Award yourself!! No photos can do this spectacular (28" in total height) Silver Plated trophy cup justice. Its huge size simply doesn't come across. Made by the renowned firm of PAIRPOINT New Bedford, MA, it is of the highest quality. I was thrilled to come across it at a recent antiques show. The engraving is in French. It is the "Coupe Bellevue" possibly awarded by a Quebec Hotel of that name and its friends. The town of Beauharnois is near the St. Laurence River and has now been amalgamated with Montreal. I could find no references to this particular Championship contest and can only assume that it was for an Automobile, Motorcycle or even a Boat race. All came in 3 cylinder versions so I'm told. It had to be a high profile event to be awarded a trophy of such magnificence. It features 2 leering Bacchus faces on the handles no doubt anticipating the winner's party to come. The lid comes off, its finial is a figural quartet of plumes. The turned base is lacquered wood, it separates and is original to the trophy. Please enlarge my close up to view the engraving. The reverse is blank. The condition is excellent, it obviously had been well taken care of. Pre-dating World War I by 1 year, it is short of 100 by 2 years. There is very little loss to the plating. Aside from a slight dent on the upper front rim and from a few very small pings to the left of the "Coupe" word there are 2 minor spots at the bottom front. 1 the size of a small cherry, the other the size of a pea. None of this is noticeable when the trophy is viewed normally, due to its shine & the location of these minor blemishes. No scratches or gouges. Weighs 15 lbs approx. I'm so tempted to keep it for myself!
