Antique Walnut Wood Catalan Dining Table from France Some Spanish tables, often called ‘Catalan Style’ tables, are characterized by the slightly lyre shaped supports and iron stretchers. The iron stretcher is distinctly Iberian. In the earliest examples, the iron was easily removable so that the table could be taken apart quickly for transportation. In the unsettled middle ages, Spanish nobility was constantly moving from one stronghold to the next. This Catalan style table from the 1800's has been hand made with rare burled walnut wood and three sets of lyre shaped legs for additional support. Two sets of scrolling hand forged iron stretchers grace each section. The patina of the rare burled walnut wood is absolutely stunning on this table. Depending upon the width of the chairs, this magnificent Catalan table could seat up to ten people. Condition: Nicks and rubs to wood; slight curving to ends commensurate with burled walnut wood and age. H=30 7/8, L=98 7/8, W=35 1/8
