SOLD Antique 18th Century Ukrainian Zaporozhian Cossack or Russian Don Cossack mace Bulava of classic form hand forged entirely of iron with large globular head surmounted by bud finial and damascened in gold in the form of the cross on a silver inlaid ground with narrow collar linking it to the cylindrical haft with bulbous pommel.
The Bulava – mace was carried by the Ukrainian and Russian Cossacks commanders of the highest military rank as an insignia of the power and authority.
MEASUREMENTS: Overall length: 64.3cm (25 1/4 in). Diameter of the iron head 8.3 cm (3 1/4 in).
CONDITION: In its original condition showing the age and usage with a dark patina, the gold and silver inlay is partly worn.
