Antique Sterling Emerald Paste Deco Brooch STUNNING Stone of Venus

Unavailable

This is such a  fantastic antique brooch that is in GREAT condition. Marked sterling and Germany on the back, the center stone may  be an emerald. I see an inclusion in it ( see photo). The stones around it are bright diamond like  paste rhinestones which sparkle even more than in the photo. The center stone was once believed to prevent epilepsy, stop bleeding, cure dysentery and fever, and protect the wearer from panic. Its magnificent green color was said to rest and relieve the eye. To the ancient Romans, emeralds were dedicated to the goddess Venus because the green emerald symbolized the reproductive forces of nature. Early Christians saw it as a symbol of the resurrection of Christ. In the Middle Ages, emeralds were believed to hold the power to foretell the futureThis has really good weight to it and you can tell it is a high quality piece. Even if the stone in the center is not real, it is a great and beautiful piece. This is May's birthstone ( Taurus or Gemini) . It measures 1 3/4" x 1" .
