Antique Pre Civil War American Empire Flaming Mahogany Bookcase Secretary

American Empire bookcase secretary in flaming mahogany. This is a lovely antique piece from pre Civil War era. Topped with a moulded cornice over a conforming case with 2 hinged glass doors. There are 2 adjustable shelves inside. The upper case back is painted white over 3 drawers. The drawers are hand-cut dovetail, all with brass locks with the original brass key findings.

The bottom case with slant front door opens to a writing surface with pigeonholes and locking drawer. The original felt has been replaced. The door is supported by 2 pull-out lopers, over 2 hand-cut dovetail drawers with locks over a 2 door cabinet with 1 full length shelf. The entire cabinet is supported by carved bracket feet. Overall measurements are 22"D x 46"W x 87"H.

The sides of the bottom case have 20"W planks. Each side has a stress crack but this doesn't affect the strength or stability of the piece. It is in very good antique condition with minor wear. Circa 1830.
