Persian Safavid Period Copper Bowl / Basin (17 in, 43 cm)

Unavailable

This very large Safavid period inlaid copper basin measures an impressive 17" across and 9" tall (43 by 23 cm) and features a round shape with slightly inverted rim, extensive incised decorations including calligraphic band under the rim, and decorative arabesques alternatively filled with vegetal motifs, geometric patterns and animals.  Overall condition is good, consistent with age. Remnants of original inlaid gold are visible on the top of the rim.

For similar but much smaller bowl from the early Safavid period (measuring 14.5 by 3.3 in [37 by 8.5 cm]), see lot 186 from Sotheby's sale L12223, held in London on October 3, 2012, which was offered with an estimate of 20,000-30,000 GBP ($32,191-$48,286) and sold for 27,500 GBP ($44,262) including buyer's premium. (Dollar values based on exchange rate on date of sale.)

Buyer must take delivery within the continental United States.
