I've been doing restoration work for 41 years, and this is the only one like this I have ever seen. This is an American antique not a European import. This piece is constructed of solid (no veneer) quarter-sawn (or tiger) oak with a hand carved secretary lid. This secretary desk dates to right around early 1900 and carries the most unusual transition from ornate hand carved furniture on the lid to the straight Mission or Arts & Crafts era lines of the rest of the piece. Lid is not machine carved it is all hand work and stunning.

Never insect, water, fire damaged, mildewed or stored in a damp basement or hot attic. This piece has been well cared for for the past 100 years. We have done a light cosmetic refinish to protect the original patina of the wide flaked tiger grain. This piece is structurally sound, looks beautiful and needs nothing but a special spot in your home where its beauty can be showcased. No evidence of prior repair work with the exception of a probable re-glue of one section of the top. This repair was done correctly and is nearly undetectable - but we point out everything.

Original solid brass acorn pulls, and escutcheons. Key is a replacement and will lock the drawer, but the lid lock is not operable. We never trust these 100 year old locks even when they do work. There is no potted plant syndrome on the top of the desk or the writing surface. This is probably either one of a kind or one of a very rare few of a kind.
