This antique French marble wall fountain can also be used as a bathroom sink. It was beautifully hand carved by a premier stone sculptor whose design incorporated elements difficult to execute in smooth exacting lines. The upper portion has a shaped central domed top with c-scrolls on either side extending down to a straight horizontal bottom which fits over the basin. The full field decoration is a stylized “Sun God’s” face whose mouth would support the spout for the water. There are stylized rays of sun radiating on either side from stylized clouds formed on the horizontal bottom of the plaque. The shaped basin of serpentine lines has a thick lip or molding which goes back to the wall. The shaped pedestal has horizontal serpentine lines and rests upon a base having indented corner at the front.
The marble is in an overall very pale salmon color with veining in a deeper salmon and white. This marble has multiple striations of veining. Since it has been left outside, it has its natural patina or a honed appearance. It could also be polished to a high sheen.
This antique French wall fountain/sink can be used inside or out and for a variety of purposes.
