Extraordinary antique hutch table decorated with Art Nouveau portrait of a young woman in profile. She is wearing a crown of laurel leaves, is placed within a circle, faces a band of stylized letter Ms and is framed by flowers and foliage. The portrait is done after Alphonese Mucha's "Laurel," a decorative panel created by the Paris-based Bohemian artist around 1901 and is signed with an incised monogram. Hutch tables were versatile pieces of furniture in early America that served as tables but could be converted into a chair by merely tilting the table top upwards on two removable pegs. As a chair it worked particularly well in keeping away drafts while sitting in front of the fireplace. In good used condition with original pegs, replaced fabric on table surface, paint loss, in-painting, wear and imperfections as shown. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
Measurements: 28.7" (73 cm) diameter table surface by 27" (68.6 cm) table height approximately.
