This is an exceptionally sculpted, cast and patinated bronze bust of the Greek philosopher, Archytas (Archita), after the original from the Villa of the Papyri in Herculanum that is in the collection of Museo Archeologico di Napoli.  Height 24 in; 61 cm.

A good friend to Plato, Archytas (28–347 BC) was a philosopher, mathematician, astronomer, statesman, and strategist. A scientist of the Pythagorean school, he is famous for being the reputed founder of mathematical mechanics.
