A fine and rare Early 19th Century Antique Georgian Blue and White Transfer Indented Plate, printed in a dark blue palette with an attractive scene depicting part of the city of Benares in India. The dome and towers would appear to represent part of the Temple of Vishveshwar, for which see "Benares through the eyes of British Artists", Apollo : Vol. XCII : No.122 : August 1970 : Page 97 : Plate 1. No Maker's name, but the reverse bearing the numeral 8 in underglaze blue. Illustrated, along with others from the series, in Michael Sack's excellent book "India on Transferware", { 2009 }.
