Antique French Louis XVI Period Ormolu Bronze Mantel Clock by Maurer

This French Louis XVI period mantel clock (circa 1780) with celestial theme comes from Maurer of Paris, and features two prominent cupids surrounded by books and tools, unfurling a map of the world with armillary sphere at the top.  It is in lovely condition.  The dial is signed "Maurer a Paris".  Measures:  height 13 in.; width 9.5 in.; depth 3.75 in. (33 cm; 24.5 cm; 9.5 cm).  Condition is very good.  Dial with small chip at upper winder hole, some fine cracks and some surface dirt. Cupids possibly lacking devices from hands. Ormolu with oxidation, surface dirt and some light rubbing; not extensive. Small spot on manuscript with loss to gilding.  Movement is working. As with all antique clocks that are shipped, buyer should expect the need for professional adjustment upon receipt. We are selling this item "as-is".  Provenance:  Sotheby's.
