Antique English Oak Stained Glass Bureau Bookcase, Secretary Desk.

English country style bureau bookcase, imported from England and dating back to C.1900.

The slant front drops down to create a writing table or desk top perfect for a lap top. There is also numerous cubbies which could be used to organize mail and keep your desk tidy. Amazingly, it also still has its original working lock with key.

There are 2 large drawers to the front with original decorative metal handles and hand made dovetail joints.

Mounted on top you will find a bookcase with beautiful red and green stained, leaded glass double doors which are in great condition with no breaks or cracks. These doors open to reveal 3 adjustable wooden shelves.

The whole thing stands on 4 cute bobbin turned legs with stretchers for added stability and support.

Due to climate change causing movement in the wood, there is some minor splitting to the sides and slant front. The hinges on the slant front have been replaced at some point and there are some ink stains on the inside of the desk top which probably have a story of their own. There is also a small piece of trim worn away on the bottom of the right glass door. I have tried to show all of this in the pictures and as you can see it is all very minor and only adds to its character and charm.

Over all, this beautiful piece of antique English country cottage furniture has developed a wonderful aged patina with minor rustic wear throughout. It is in solid, sturdy condition with age appropriate flaws and comes apart in 2 pieces for easy transportation and placement in the home.
