This French Breton-style longcase clock features a richly hand-carved case in Chestnut, depicting decorations and scenes from daily life in Brittany, France. The pressed brass ornamentation surrounding the enamel face of this grandfather clock features opposing bouquets of flowers, perhaps indicating that it was intended to be a wedding gift made to a newly married couple. The pendulum is decorated with sunflowers and alternating brass and silver-colored metal columns. The bottom door has carved grape leaves, symbolizing the enjoyment of life and well-wished for the married couple. This clock is in full running condition and strikes the hour and half hour. As with many French tallcase clocks of this era, the hour strike features a reminder at approximately five after the hour. Qte Superieure Faucher a Hennebont
