Cedar Chest One of a Kind Oriental Enamel Painting with Dragons Red Background 1917
This is an attractive interesting Cedar Blanket Chest with Six Wooden feet, two tension chains with brass hinges; it features two large carrying handles on the sides and a key hole in front. The Chest has a red background with fascinating hand painted enamel illustrations of scenes that tell a story with Oriental themes including Dragons, Characters, Floral, Foliage, Water and Symbols. This Chest offers two hand written notes with detailed history, according to the notes the Cedar chest was hand crafted by Capt. A Richard in 1917 from Sault St Marie Canada, he was a boat builder and gifted it to his daughter Elizabeth, in 1958 she renovated it painting the lid black and the outside red, the enamels illustrations were done by E. Fosberg. This is such a heavy solid Cedar Chest with unique character and charm the history adds to the interest and it will make a great accent piece with form and function to any space.
Condition: Good, some Minor scratches and wear on the high spots, missing the key.
